krishna supporting congress
At the prime of their careers, most superstars generally do not publicly disclose their loyalties to a particular political party due to the fear of alienating certain sections of the masses. But Superstar Krishna is one of the few prominent stars who were candid about their political affiliations. Even as an upcoming star, Krishna never bothered about these considerations as he was one of the few from the film industry to support the “Jai Andhra Movement”.
The superstar over the years congratulated several chief ministers including N.T.R when he stormed to power in 1983. Soon he swam against the tide and joined the Congress (I) party at the behest of Rajiv Gandhi when the entire film fraternity was rallying behind N.T.R. Since joining the party in December 1984, the actor visited several places in the state and campaigned for the party vigorously. During these endeavors, his eyes were severely injured as some TDP supporters hurled stones at him in Nandyala. But Krishna was undeterred by this incident and resumed his campaign soon after undergoing a surgery. He also made a short film called ‘Amarajeevi Indiramma Charithra” on the former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and several full length feature films like “Naa Pilupee Prabhanjanam” and “ Saahasamee Naa Oopiri”, which satirized TDP supremo’s administration.
