6 cancer-fighting superfoods

6 cancer-fighting superfoods To reduce your risk of cancer, look no further than your fridge. "All the studies on cancer and nutrition point to eating plant-based foods for their phytonutrients and other special compounds," says Richard Béliveau, PhD, chair in the prevention and treatment of cancer at the University of Québec at Montreal and author of Foods to Fight Cancer . Aim for five to nine daily servings of all kinds of fruits and vegetables—especially these six superstars. Broccoli All cruciferous veggies (think cauliflower, cabbage, kale) contain cancer-fighting properties, but broccoli is the only one with a sizable amount of sulforaphane, a particularly potent compound that boosts the body's protective enzymes and flushes out cancer-causing chemicals, says Jed Fahey, ScD. A recent University of Michigan study on mice found that sulforaphane also targets cancer stem cells—those that aid in tumor growth. Helps fight: breast, liver, lung, prostate, skin, stomach, ...

krishna supporting congress

http://superstarkrishna.info/content/view/166/287/ At the prime of their careers, most superstars generally do not publicly disclose their loyalties to a particular political party due to the fear of alienating certain sections of the masses. But Superstar Krishna is one of the few prominent stars who were candid about their political affiliations. Even as an upcoming star, Krishna never bothered about these considerations as he was one of the few from the film industry to support the “Jai Andhra Movement”. The superstar over the years congratulated several chief ministers including N.T.R when he stormed to power in 1983. Soon he swam against the tide and joined the Congress (I) party at the behest of Rajiv Gandhi when the entire film fraternity was rallying behind N.T.R. Since joining the party in December 1984, the actor visited several places in the state and campaigned for the party vigorously. During these endeavors, his eyes were severely injured as some TDP suppor...

By comparing ENSO episodes in different time periods and across countries, Davis explores the impact of colonialism and the introduction of capitalism, and the relation with famine in particular. Davis argues that "Millions died, not outside the 'modern world system', but in the very process of being forcibly incorporated into its economic and political structures. They died in the golden age of Liberal Capitalism; indeed, many were murdered ... by the theological application of the sacred principles of Smith, Bentham ...

We present a few refreshing ideas to help you stay cool and healthy. An age-old tradition in India is to serve any guest who arrives at the door a cool drink or at least a glass of water. In fact it is considered to be extreme rudeness not to do so. The reason behind this social etiquette is so simple and basic – in a hot country like India people sweat and it’s important to keep one’s body cool and replenish the fluids one is losing. So what better way than to have several glasses of natural cooling liquids that nature’s bounty provides so generously. India has a rich and va...

Minerals for the body.

The Importance of Minerals to Your Health http://www.mapi.com/ayurveda_health_care/self_care/mineral.html ftp://ftp.fao.org/docrep/fao/005/y8346m/y8346m06.pdf Although humans have been consuming minerals for thousands of years, modern science is just beginning to understand their significance to our health. The human physiology is unable to manufacture minerals like it manufactures certain vitamins. Iron, magnesium and other minerals can only be found in the soil. Plants absorb them directly from the soil and we acquire them through the various steps of the food chain. Minerals are constituents of the bones, teeth, muscle, blood, and nerves. They are vital to our overall mental and physical well-being. They take part in digestion, assimilation, muscle response and the production of hormones. If the body becomes deficient in one or more of these essential nutrients, a variety of symptoms can occur. Calcium deficiency, for example, may result in the softening of the b...

Common names include carnation ( D. caryophyllus ), pink ( D. plumarius and related species) and sweet william ( D. barbatus ). The name Dianthus is from the Greek words dios ("god") and anthos ("flower"), and was cited by the Greek botanist Theophrastus . The species are mostly perennial herbs, a few are annual or biennial, and some are low subshrubs with woody basal stems. The leaves are opposite, simple, mostly linear and often strongly glaucous grey-green to blue-green. The flowers have five petals, typically with a frilled or pinked margin, and are (in almost all species) pale to dark pink. One species, D. knappii , has yellow flowers with a purple centre.

Nagalinga flower or cannon ball tree.

Image
Nagalinga Pushpa. cannon ball tree In India it has been growing for the past two or three thousand years at least, as attested by textual records [ citation needed ] ; hence it is possible that it is native to India also. It's part of the family Lecythidaceae and grows up to 25m (82ft) in height. The "Cannonball Tree" is so called because of its brown cannon-ball-like fruits. The majority of these trees outside their natural environment have been planted as a botanical curiosity, as they grow very large, distinctive flowers. Its flowers are orange, scarlet and pink in color, and form large bunches measuring up to 3m in length. They produce large spherical and woody fruits ranging from 15 to 24cm in diameter, containing up to 200 or 300 seeds apiece. Click here to see the description.
